The Six Pillars of Our Philosophy
Our name "Shatkon" derives from the Sanskrit word for hexagon, representing the six core values that guide our creative approach.
Authenticity
Telling honest stories that reflect the true essence of Nepal's diverse cultural landscape, avoiding stereotypes and surface-level representations.
Artistry
Pursuing cinematic excellence through meticulous craftsmanship in every aspect of filmmaking, from visual composition to sound design.
Innovation
Embracing new technologies and storytelling techniques while respecting tradition, constantly pushing creative boundaries.
Inclusivity
Celebrating Nepal's diversity by telling stories from various communities, ensuring representation both on screen and behind the camera.
Cultural Heritage
Preserving and celebrating Nepal's rich traditions, myths, and histories through modern storytelling, creating a bridge between past and present.
Global Perspective
Creating films that speak to universal human experiences while maintaining our unique Nepalese perspective, making our stories accessible to global audiences.
Our Journey
From humble beginnings to international recognition, our path has been defined by passion, perseverance, and artistic growth.
2015: The Beginning
Founding of Shatkon Arts
Shatkon Arts was established by a small group of passionate filmmakers led by Aayu Tamang, with a vision to create authentic Nepalese cinema. Operating from a small office in Kathmandu, we produced our first short film "Echoes from the Valley," which gained attention at local film festivals.
2017: First Feature Film
Release of "Himalayan Whispers"
Our first feature film "Himalayan Whispers" premiered at the Kathmandu International Mountain Film Festival and was subsequently screened at several Asian film festivals, establishing our unique visual style and thematic focus.
2020: International Recognition
Berlin International Film Festival Selection
"Rivers of Change," our documentary exploring Nepal's environmental challenges, was selected for competition at the Berlin International Film Festival, marking our entry into the global cinema landscape and winning the Silver Bear for extraordinary artistic contribution.
2023: Studio Expansion
New Headquarters & Filmmaker Mentorship Program
We moved to our current state-of-the-art studio facility in Lazimpat, Kathmandu, and launched our filmmaker mentorship program to nurture emerging Nepalese talent, providing technical resources, guidance, and opportunities for collaboration.
